Do you want to use your time to help others but you’re not sure how? Volunteering at the Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry can offer:

Meaning:

Becoming a food pantry volunteer offers an immediacy not always available at other volunteer opportunities. Experiencing gratitude daily helps fuel our mission.

When I retired, I needed something in my life to show I was here. The pantry gave that to me.

Community:

Our volunteers work directly with our patrons, many of whom visit the Food Pantry regularly. We like being part of their routine. And because we work closely together to help our neighbors, we forge friendships along the way.

Our volunteers come from different walks of life, but all have the same purpose … to help people who need a boost or helping hand to get through life.

Results:

Witness the daily impact of your efforts and the long-term stability we provide.

The people we serve are young and old but all have a common denominator. They need help feeding their families and we are here for that purpose.

In our own words…

Some of our food pantry volunteers reveal what they found volunteering at the Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry.

Simply the best

I volunteered for three plus years before the pandemic hit, and hope to be back before this year is over. I‘ve volunteered at many other food pantries over the years and the Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry is far and away the best in the area. We give out more food, better selection and have frozen products meat, chicken, etc., that most other pantries don’t. I miss working there. It gives you a good feeling knowing that you are helping out people in need.

Attitude of gratitude

In 2014 I retired and a good friend mentioned the Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry as something I might enjoy. I was fortunate enough to take his recommendation and have since met a group of people that are dedicated to helping others in need. Our volunteers come from different walks of life, but all have the same purpose … to help people who need a boost or helping hand to get through life. The people we serve are young and old but they all need help feeding their families and we are here for that purpose. Most are very grateful and we get a lot of ‘Thank You,’ ‘God Bless,’ and other expressions of gratitude. Those that volunteer there could also say the same thing because it also makes us feel good being there and helping others.

Helping as healing

I remember going to the First Baptist Church as a kid and never really realized how much hard work and dedication goes into helping others. Until I found myself in a not-so-proud situation, that’s when my dad asked if I wanted to start volunteering with him. A little hesitant, I started volunteering in 2014. It has been my saving grace. Knowing I’m making a difference in someone’s (a total stranger’s) life is the most rewarding feeling. I’m looking forward to going back to the strangers who have become friends.
